Configuring Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar AP1201

This chapter describes how to configure Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar AP1201.
Before proceeding further with the configuration, you need to configure SMS Station with a domain and a gateway as described in Adding a New Gateway.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites required for configuration are:

SMS Station gateway configured with Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar hardware type

Now inside SMS Station, select your Gateway, click the dropdown menu, choose Edit.
Expand the General Data session.
In the Hardware Type field, choose Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar.

Accessing the Controller

Access your Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar with your credentials or using the credentials Alcatel provided you with.

Once you sign in, the Setup Wizard will appear.

If the first time, change password, select the country and the time zone. Then click Next.

The first step is to configure the WLAN for the hotspot service, the access to the RADIUS server and accounting. After that, you need to enter the Walled Garden.

Configuring the WAN Interface

Step 1

Edit the name of your WLAN.

Step 2

On Security Level, choose Open.

Step 3

Then click on Save.

Step 4

The following wizard will appear. Click OK.

Step 5

Now you need to log in again to your Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar interface. Select the language and enter the password at the prompt.

Once you sign in, the Administration panel will appear.

Now you need to configure the AP. By default, the AP is configured with active DHCP. Click on the gear icon of the AP.

In the Detailed Information session, scroll down to the IP Mode field and click Edit.

Click on Static which will show you the various parameters to enter for the network.

Once completed, click the Save button on the right.

Step 10

Click on the gear icon in WLAN to expand the panel managing the WLAN.

Step 11

Click on the pen icon on the right to edit the WLAN.

Step 12

Select the options as follows:

Captive Portal–Switch Yes
Inactivity Timeout Status– Switch On
Inactivity Timeout Interval-Define the needed value. If clients do not make traffic within the specified time, they will be automatically disconnected.
Enable–Select Yes
Hidden–Select No

Once completed, scroll down and click on Save.

Click on the X icon at the top right to close the session.

Configuring the Hotspot Portal

Step 1

Now you need to configure the parameters for the Captive Portal. In the Web Management, scroll down and expand the Access session by clicking it or using its arrow on the right.

Step 2

Click the gear icon in Authentication to open the panel managing the authentication.

Step 3

Now you need to enter the parameters of your portal.
Enter the details as follows:

HTTPS–Switch Off (Optional if you need to reidirect in HTTPS, switch On and enter the certificate in System>General>Certificate Management.
Select External Captive Portal.

In the Captive Portal Server session, enter the detailas as follows:

Hostname–Enter the IP or the domain of your SMS Station.
Redirect URL–Enter /portal

In the Captive Portal Server session, enter the detailas as follows:

Server IP/Hostname–Enter the IP of your SMS Station.
Authentication Server Port–Enter 1812.
Secret–Enter the secret you set in the System Settings session of your SMS Station for the radius.
Confirm–Re-enter the secret
Radius Accounting–Tick it
Accounting Server Port–Enter 1813
Accounting Interval–Enter a value equal to or lower than the Interim Update defined in the products that you will use. For example, enter 300.
